Zarate is a wave spot, usually not choppy in the wave spot. The waves are long, with a nice tube, formed by the sideshore wind. These waves are not the nasty-type. They can break from 1 to 7 feet high, with a nice clear area downwind from the point. So even if you lose your kite, it should be safe.

The beach has plenty of launching space, and it is covered by pebbles. There can be some sea urchins inside. It is a natural reserve beach.

It is sunny about 95% of the days in a year. On summer you may need a spring-suit, only for late kiting. From May to October bring a full-suit. Air temp never gets below 15ºC (May to October) and can reach 31ºC in the summer (January to March).

12-25 knots, South sideshore wind, September to May. The rest of the year brings similar conditions at least half the time. South wind is the best. There may be North wind up to 2:45pm every day, but it switches to South wind. There are occasional `Paracas`, 30+ knot sandstorms, about every other month. It is not recommended to kitesurf in a `Paraca`. This spot is isolated.

Go into the Paracas Natural Reserve. Take the South road as soon as you cross the toll gate. Drive on the road about 10 minutes, and turn right, off-road, towards the ocean. You should see Zarate on the left. There are no marked signs to reach Zarate. Park on the beach.

Be gentle with the birds and the habitat, and respectful to the Natural Reserve guards. Take your trash away with you. Wear a helmet, and try to spot a fisherman boat before you go in the water. You are usually alone and you may need their help.
