The Secret Beach is located on the border of the famous Black Face Spoon Bill reserve in Chigu, Tainan county. It is an uncrowded, usually empty, beautiful beach about 3 kilometers long.
In southern Taiwan we get less rain than in the north. Water is actually warm all year round. Winter makes it chilly and a shorty or full suit will do, depending on your tough guy status. Best times are November to May (winter).
At this location, where there are many fish farms and no buildings, trees or hills, we enjoy excellent sustained winds. It can get very strong cross offshore sustained winds, so it is perfect for advanced kiteboarders, but dangerous for beginners. The beach curves, making S and N sideshore on its southern part. Summer rain season, SW, 50% good wind sunny days. Winter dry season NE, 70% days with wind.
The Secret Beach is about an hour to an hour and a half north of Kaohsiung. From Tainan take the 17 north out of Tainan. Get off at the 173. Go west and turn left at the first temple and follow the river embankment for about 12 kilometers. The Secret Beach will be on your left, on the other side of the embankment.
