A wetsuit is necessary nearly all over the year. The water is between 5-20°C (spring to summer), air temperature is in the average 18°C (in summer) and can go up to 30°C. If you have the adequate wetsuit you can surf from April to November. Off-season is possible but very cold.
From the A1 take the B202 in Oldenburg towards Luetjenburg. In Kakoehl turn right and take the K45 towards Hohwacht. Then follow signs to Sehlendorf. In Sehlendorf take the Strandstr. to the beach. Park directly next to the beach.
Show respect towards all beach users. The owner of a kite needs to be able to show a license. Keep the area in front of the surf school clear. Do not ride in the shallow area in front of the school during lessons. Only pass through to get out or come in, then ride slowly. No private instructions, not other intructors allowed. Respect the restricted areas of the natural reserve (the access to the lake and the according sandbars. Launching and landing only by instructed helpers, min. 2 line lengths distance to any other persons or obstacles. Leave the beach immediately after launching. Wind up your lines after you landed your kite. Don't jump on the beach. Landing kiters have priority over launching kiters. With onshore winds water starts only, with enough distance to the shore, and no jumps close to shore (at least 2 line length distance. Do not ride in the swimmer's zone, marked by white buoys. Do not come closer than 50m to any swimmer, even if outside the marked swimmer's zone. Do listen to what the instructors tell you. Please respect all of these rules to keep the access.
