This spot is the river just next to Barra Beach. You can enter on either side of the river, depending on the wind direction. The bottom is mostly sand, and almost all the river has waist deep water, depending on the tide level. The water can be perfectly flat at some points, but with the Nortada, there is always some chop. Not a crowded spot. Good for beginners and intermediate when the swell in the sea is for experts.
The entry on the Costa Nova side is for experts, or for beginners only in the extreme south near the school, when the tide is low and the wind is north (Nortada). The beach is sandy.
The season is from March to November, but you can ride all year easily. The water temperature in summer is around 22°C and air from 25-33°C. During winter the water is 15°C and air from 12-22°C.

Two main wind directions: 1. North, summer wind, steady and reliable from March to October. 2. South, winter wind, a bit gusty and very shifty. In the lagoon it is possible to surf with all the other wind directions.
From Porto A1 to Aveiro, and then A25 to the beach. When reaching the beach after the bridge over the lagoon, Barra is on the right, and Costa Nova to the left. From Porto there is train to Aveiro, but afterwards its by bus. It's about 1 hour from Porto to the beach by car.
Barra Beach is quite hot during summer nights. Aveiro has lots of nice nite spots too. The party usually starts late 12 pm and ends at 7 am. In Aveiro the place to warm up is Praça do Peixe and from there to Estacao da Luz (disco). In Barra there are several beach bars right on the beach.
