This beach has an ocean and lake (Salzhaff) side. Small waves on the ocean side. The stronger the winds the bigger the waves. Flat to choppy water on the `Salzhaff` with big shallow area. A fin for seaweed is recommended.
Summer is nice and warm. High season a shorty is ok, a few weeks with just shorts is possible. Usually a wetsuit is always needed. Water max 22°C in summer, normally around 15°C. Winter gets cold, but a thick wetsuit, gloves, mask and shoes make kiting almost year-round possible. Air: summer between 20-30°C, spring and fall around 15°C. The Salzhaff warms up quicker and is always a bit warmer, but when the air gets colder, the ocean will be warmer.
Westerly winds with depressions. Best from fall to spring. Summer lighter. Nice NE and E winds in summer, but not very often. The ocean works in NE to SW and the Salzhaff in Southerlies or Northerlies for very flat water.
From Rostock take either B105 towards Bad Doberan and Kroepelin or the A20 and exit towards Kroepelin/Kuehlungsborn. In Kroepelin follow signs to Rerik. In Rerik drive to the west until you see the beach and Salzhaff. Parking available.
