Nyali Beach has a large area of flat water enclosed by a reef 2kms offshore which offers some epic wave-riding. Although tidal it works on all states of the tide unlike a number of other beaches in the Mombasa area.
The beach is large, wide and generally uncrowded, except on Sundays when it can become quite busy. The make up of the beach is white sand so don't forget your sunglasses.
The air temperature is in the mid-30's almost all-year round you won't need more than board shorts and a rash guard plus plenty of sun-block. The water temperature is around 25-28°C.
Weather in Kenya is divided into the Southeast and Northeast monsoons which give sideshore winds from either the right or left at different times of the year. Northeast Monsoon gives anywhere between 8m and 12m weather most days from December to April.
South-East Monsoon howls from June to September and can blow upwards of 30 knots+. Due to the prevailing sideshore conditions this is a great place to learn and improve. Sideshore NNE and SSW.
Flying to Mombasa is generally via Nairobi although there are some scheduled and charter flights to fly directly. Once at the airport it's a quick 20 minute transfer to Nyali Beach.
