Super smooth inside, fantastic glassy reform middle wave, bitchen right hander outside. Big channel downwind...riders have to be able to get upwind with less wind than it takes to waterstart (upwind board drag). You don't want to go down wind of Method Beach, unless riding across the bay. Killer wave spot in winter.
The beach itself is super nice, the State of Hawaii has control of the majority of the land so there is nothing around except for the big red shops across the street.
Probably the nicest kite beach on Maui, great exposure to easterly trade winds. When the wind is offshore at Kitebeach, it is side shore at Method Beach. The narliest wind on Maui is the easterly trades. Most of the kite beaches are in a wind shadow and tough to launch from especially in easterly trades. Method has great exposure and the wind is 5-10 mph less when the super narly winds fill in. If there is a high around, this spot works. It is a marginal to poor beach on Northerlies.
Minutes from the airport, Method Beach is directly downwind from kitebeach. The easiest way to get there is to park across the street from the shops. There is a nature trail through cool lagoons to the beach. Method Beach is the last beach on the Northeast side of the island, and is used as an exit point for downwinders.
