The water conditions are always nearly the same. Choppy water, there is an area (150x400 meters) where you can easily stand in the water (for beginners recommended). During summer there is a windsurfing school and swimming zone to the left. Kitesurfers and windsurfers have to stay out of this zone.
There is a small beach with hardly any obstacles. At the end of the beach there is a big meadow where you can start and land your kite perfectly. To the right there is a dyke with stones, so stay away from it, it can be dangerous.
A wetsuit is necessary nearly all over the year. The water is between 5-20°C (spring to summer), air temperature is in the average 18°C (in summer) and can go up to 30°C. If you have the adequate wetsuit you can surf from April to November. Off-season is possible but very cold.
Take the A1 from Hamburg and drive North to Puttgarden. Follow the road to Puttgarden when the A1 ends. Take the first exit (Petersdorf) after the bridge to Fehmarn, turn left and then take the second left and follow that road all the way to `Albertsdorf`. In `Albertsdorf` the street makes a 90° right turn, there is a street to the left with signs to `Gold`. Follow that street and after about 500m turn left and the street ends at a parking lot. Parking costs 2 Euro/day and walk about 300m to the meadow and another 200m to the beach.
The beach is an area specially for wind- and kitesurfing. Please don´t surf beside this special zone, because there is a special bathing beach and windsurfing school zone (during summer). The parking lot is for free.
