Flat to choppy water. Tidal beach, works only in 2.5 hours before and after high tide. Big shallow area. Muddy bottom. Look out for wave breakers just beneath the surface, which are likely to kill your fins. The wave breakers are completely covered on high tide and not visible any more.
Summer is nice and warm. High season a shorty is ok, a few weeks with just shorts is possible. Usually a wetsuit is always needed. Water max 22°C in summer, normally around 15°C. Winter gets cold, but a thick wetsuit, gloves, mask and shoes make kiting almost year-round possible. Air: summer between 20-30°C, spring and fall around 15°C.
From Bremerhaven drive north on A27. Exit to Dorum and drive to the beach. Parking fees (before the height limitation parking fees are lower). There is a limited access for cars over 2.20m. But you can park before and then you need to walk for about 250m.
The whole area in front of the beach is swimmer's zone during the season. Kiters should go all the way to the left. Make sure to be VERY respectful towards the other beach users and in the water. Rescue available during summer. Stay out of the shipping channel. Watch out during winter, then the parking area can be flooded on very high tide. Quiet high fees for the beach access during summer, but it also includes free entrance to the outdoor swimming area. During summer access is on ly until 18:00Uhr possible.
