Muddy, brackish, brown water, sandy bottom. Water can have 3-5 foot swells in bay area 60-70 yards from beach in strong westerly winds, but generally flat to choppy. Launch area is shallow for about 10-15 feet. Vermillion Bay area with plenty of water but few obstacles, once away from beach area. To the North and in front of the beach some wave breakers, be careful. Do not ride near, around, through gaps in or jump barrier. This will result in kiteboarding being banned from this area.
Man made beach in State Park. Beach launch with limited grassy/sandy area for rigging. Rig only what you will ride and wind lines when land kite. 6 or more kiters at this launch makes for a crowded launch. Down wind runs into swiming area are not advised. If you do not have skills to avoid loosing ground and wind up in swim area DO NOT RIDE HERE!
May thru September, warm water and warm/hot air temps. October thru November and March thru April water temps are cooler and a shorty can be used, average air temp about 75°F. December thru February coldest months with air temps average 65°F and water temps around 60°F, a long wetsuit recommended. That being said this is South Louisiana & as for weather it's a crap shoot at best. Be prepared for colder waters is best bet.

Best winds in this area are from cold fronts in the fall thru spring time. Best wind conditions any direction with some West. Summer winds are generally light (5-10mph) with an occasionally thermal or tropical weather system.
From Lafayette airport, take Highway 90 east 20 miles towards New Iberia. Continue on highway 90 for 4 miles and turn right at the Lydia/Cypremort point exit. On Highway 83 travel 20 miles to Cypremort State Park. Follow the brown State Park signs to the park. Turn right after entrance gate/house and follow the gravel road to the end and turn left. There is a parking area set aside for kiting/sailing.
This is a Louisiana State Park $1.00 per vehicle to enter. NO GLASS containers! The area at the end of the Park has been set aside for kiters, there is NO SWIMMING in this area and the park rangers try to discourage beach goers from hanging out in this area. No KITING, boating or windsurfing allowed in the designated swimming areas. All it will take is one stupid mistake, accident, near miss or injury to have the sport baned from this site! PLEASE RIDE WITH CARE! Do not ride near, around, through gaps in or jump barrier. This will result in kiteboarding being banned from this area.
