Water
Type:
- Shallow
- Flat
- Chop
- Small Wave (< 1m)
Hazards:
- None

Quality:
- Clean
Best Tide:
- Tide Independent

Big shallow area. No tide to speak of. Good learning spot. Waves are more of a chop with onshore winds. Not a big wave sight. No surfing unless it is blowing 25kts or more directly onshore for a few days. Since this is located on the shores of a shallow sound the waves never develop a lot of power and max out at 4'-5'.

This area probably is best during the spring and fall when the wind will probably have some North in it. In the summer the predominate direction will be from the Southwest/East. These will mostly offshore the main beach but there are little coves and inlets that have yet to be explored that would allow kiting in these winds. Expect winds around 10-15 kts most days in the summer.

 How to get there
Transport:
- Car
Access:
- Short Walk

This area is only 40 miles South of Hatteras. If you are driving to Hatteras from the South you have to stop at Cedar Island and catch the ferry. This is the spot. Take Hwy 70 E. from Morehead City until you come to Hwy 12 at Atlantic. Follow the sign to the Cedar Island Ferry. There is a parking lot beside the ferry terminal. The beach is right there. If coming from the North you have probably already been kiting Hatteras. Head South, catch the ferry over to Ocracoke Island then catch the ferry there to Cedar Island. You'll get a good look at the beach as you arrive on Cedar Island. No airports/buses/trains anywhere near by. There is a campground/motel/restaurant within walking distance of the beach.
