The place has a fantastic setting! When clear, it has a great view of the mountain. There are waves and short flats between the waves depending on the tide and the sand bar some 50 m out! Close to car park with grass area. It is a river mouth (small river at the time I checked it).

It is near the cliffs. I was told that when the tide is high, the cliffs can cause the wind to go "funny".

I have not had my eye on this spot long enough to complete this section accurately. There seems to be wind mostly year around. It seems to be the preferred beach when the winds are anything towards S-SSW-SW.

ust west of New Plymouth. Use the car park down near the beach rather than the one on top the cliffs.
Edit
Common sense. However this are is a Marine Reserve! More info on: www.doc.govt.nz (NZ Department of Conservation)
Edit
Nearest is in New Plymouth. Typical small town night life; plenty of restaurants to choose from; few busy bars.
