There are a lot of beds and umbrellas on the beach for sunbathers. Directly behind the beach are houses, restaurants and even a part of the pretty busy village road. Launching and landing a kite here is dangerous and hazardous for others. I strongly advise against doing that. The windsurfing club is very close to the big cliff which creates the wind shadow. Launching there is no option because there will not be enough wind to go out. And if you go out you might be overpowered, even on a flat-kite.

Kitesurfing in Kokkari is almost impossible due to the high cliff upwind of the bay where the beach of Kokkari is situated. This creates a massive wind shadow all over the beach. Windsurfers go outside the bay for better winds. The wind is not thermal, but is influenced by it. Sometimes the wind can change from 6 Bft within 30 seconds to 1 Bft. During a measurement of the wind speed in knots in half an hour, I had max. of 26 knts, but an average of 11. Also very dangerous for kiting the wind can change direction when it is so extremely gusty as described above for 90 degrees, even 180 (turns completely offshore, there is no rescue service!). At least go an ask the windsurf center what the forecast will be to avoid these days. Even the airplanes sometimes cannot land due to this extreme instable wind from different directions.

When it is windy enough to surf there are hardly any swimmers due to the rough sea. Due to the above described circumstances I highly advise against attempting to kitesurf here!
