The wind's range is usually between 13-18 knots, so a large gear is necessary. The best direction for the wind is South to Southwest.

If you get to Santiago, Chile, you will definitely want to take a plane from Santiago to Arica city, it's a three hour flight from the capital. If you choose a bus it's a 28 hour trip (bring a good book to read or pills to sleep a lot - or something to kill the time). When you get to Arica take a taxi to Las Machas beach - unpack your kite and ride! With a car you can drive directly on the beach to the water. Very close to the boarder to Peru.
