Clean water. Choppy conditions getting more ridable after 3pm when the wind drops a bit. Tides start to change every 6 hours. During the peak of the tide it can be extremely choppy but decreasing as the tide starts going down. A few small fishermen and tourist boats closer to the center. Best during low tides. The best conditions can be found during full moon low tides. Sometimes an excellent swell comes in.
Long, sandy beach. Several kilometers long, can hold hundreds of kiters. Lots of space, only in front of the Eco Paradise it gets packed during season. On high tide the beach can get very narrow at some spots. Horses and cars on the beach, pay attention when launching and landing.
Sunny and warm, air 32°C and water 30°C all year long. No wetsuit required, only solar protection. Best season is from August to January. Rainy season February to June.

Switching from sideoffshore to sideshore, sometimes sideonshore. Best time is from August to January with almost 100% wind but even in the wet season you can kite almost 70% of the days.
For 3 Reais from Fortaleza with the local bus. Limitation is the few buses that rides the line. Starting from Fortaleza at 8.30 am and the last leaving Cumbuco at 5 pm. Or by taxi for about 40-80 Reais. About 30 min drive Northeast of Fortaleza. From the airport it takes 45min to get to Cumbuco.
There's traffic of buggies, quads and horses on the beach. Do not kite in front of the main village, where all the beach restaurants are. Look out for tourists on the beach. Cumbuco is the closest tourist destination near Fortaleza and therefore it's the chosen one day destination for almost all tourist getting to the city, also there are trips of dune buggy available to the ones interested to ride the buggy on the dunes.
Great nightlife in Fortaleza, just 30 min drive by car. Taxis take you for 40-50 Reais. Normally the taxi is cheaper going back to Cumbuco. Monday: Pirata, Tuesday: Cafe del Mar or Chapas Clube, Wednesday: Armazem, Thursday: Croco Beach or Orbita, Friday: Mucuripe, Saturday: Armazem, Sunday: Orbita. The Forro concerts are also good fun.
08-02-11 csendesm: Exellent stop. The best on this planet!!!
04-09-06 BrianSuntrax: Great spot, sideshore wind everyday, plenty wideopen beaches, very reasonably prics - Cumbuco nightlife non existant, stay in Fortaleza and travel daily. I spent 5 weeks there in June 2004 and will definately be back!
04-05-27 cris: Best time is from July to Dec but even in the wet season I kited almost 90 per cent of days
04-03-17 Leon: Cumcuco is really the place! Wind everyday, non-stop. Few people, nice locals, good prices.
04-02-28 Thomas: The best beaches for Kiting of the world!nver ending space,no problem with any locals, the most of people see kiters as first time and are happy to make pic`s of u high hjumps there!
04-02-27 cris: In Cumbuco bay, due to the shape of the beach and also due to some sand banks, we find different conditions, it just needs a bit of exploring to find them. The differece? Night and day.
08-11-18 00:45 Unknown: Just came back (Nov'08) - rode Cumbuco ocean, buco'lagunas (flat fresh water) and up north - Taiba, Paracuru and on. I have been pretty much everywhere - Maui, Mauritius, Australia, Caribbean, Mexico, Tarifa. Mind you, I live in N.Cali. Forget it - this is the best place on the planet. Period! Winds are as consistent as a swiss clock. Mornings 8-11 AM about 15 knots; 11AM to 3PM consistent 25-30MPH; after 3PM is slowing down fast. KiteShops and Kiteschools do not have any larger kites than 12M. Food and hotels are cheap but good; equipment is outrageously expensive to buy or to rent it. Plan to bring your own. Other downsides: some crime; getting there is a bitch; it is a poor country and well underdeveloped. In most cases you can be on your own defense. Kinda - not a place for either very old people or little kids. Otherwise is a blast.
