Very cold water, large debris, ocean shore break. Lots of seaweed and kelp at times. Wave and chop with shorebreak. Can be nice waves in strong conditions (25kts+). Usually side onshore waves 1-4ft, short period. Watch out for the current.
Nice grassy area to rig and launch. Watch out for power lines right beside grassy area. Mix of sand, pebbles, rocks and logs. If it is really windy launch is a bit dangerous as you have to walk from grassy area over logs/debris to get to the water. The launch can be very slippery when the field is wet.
Usually very cold as it is more of a fall, winter and spring spot. Wetsuit (5/4) bare minimum but most wear drysuits. Summer is also possible but rare.
Variable winds anything from 10-15 kts on a light day to 25+ kts on stronger days. Frontal winds therefore unpredictable. Works well in a SE-E as well as a N. Usually SE. Best direction is SE during the winter. Typically it is caused by an approaching front. Strength from 10-40 knots, average about 20-35. Can be weekly during the winter months and can last from a couple of hours to a couple of days.
Follow the Pat Bay Highway from Victoria. Turn right on Island View Road, then left on Homathko Road, which leads to the beach. Allow approximately 30 minutes driving time from Victoria.
No rules or regulations, probably the easiest spot near Victoria to kitesurf. Wear a leash as the current can be pretty strong. (I've spent 15 minutes body dragging for my board and only gained a meter or two till finally someone brought me my board).
