The water can range from flat with a little chop to 6ft surf but usually in summer NE seabreezes when it is best it is in the 1-3ft range and from the NE. Tide does not effect it as it is not big. Waves are clean as wind is perfect sideshore. The water is very clear.

It is part of the Freycinet National Park you can drive to a car park right on the beach and rig on the beach. Sand is soft and white. Launch is easy but wind can be a little lighter on shore. A few shells and dried kelp seaweed on beach to be clear of but not much.

NE seabreezes are the best can be from 10 knots but usually in summer (Dec-Mar) 20-30knots 3-4 days a week. This direction is really steady and strong and perfect sideshore on port tack with great waves. You can also kite here in SE and Southerly wind but it is not as consistent. December to April is best for NE seabreeze very regular. Winter is mainly offshore westerlies can be very good surf then and you can kite in Coles Bay only 20km away in Westerlies.

You fly into Hobart or Launceston or come on the boat to Tasmania from Sydney or Melbourne and follow the signs to the East Coast and head towards Bicheno and Coles Bay, Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay are one of Tasmanias most popular tourist destinations and are easy to find. You turn off the Tasman Hwy about 10 km before Bicheno a right hand turn and come along the Coles Bay road about 10 km and you will see a LH turn to Friendly Beaches and the Freycinet National Park and it is approx 5 km into the beach. You can kite straight in front of the carpark.

You will need to purchase a National Park pass in Hobart or Launceston or on your way into the park these are about $16.00 per year for one park or if you are seeing the rest of Tasmania - lots of other beautiful spots to kite! You can get one for all of them and these are about $50.00 for a year - this is per car with however many people you have. Best to wear helmet and flotation vest as a precaution, as there are no lifeguards to come and rescue you here. It is a great place to camp and has good toilets and camping areas maintained by National Parks.
