This area has it all! It's like a Kite Park in our backyard. Everything from butter to breakers. This area off East Beach has lots of sandbars and an inlet runs through it. Outgoing tide gives you tidal ponds and long buttery speed strips. Incoming tide gives you rollers, breakers and bump and jump conditions.
Beautiful white powdery sand to hard pack sand. No sharp shells or other objects. You can park at the old Coast Guard Station parking area and walk a few hundred yards North on the beach to this area.
All wind directions are flyable. It blows here from the North, Northeast 10-25 mph in winter. South, Southeast and Southwest 10-25 mph in summer. All directions can be good. Late afternoon thermals in summer can let you fly most days.
Take I-95 into Brunswick Georgia to HWY 17 (Glynn Ave) to the St. Simons Island Causeway. Follow the causeway onto the island and it turns into Demere Rd. Continue on Demere around the airport and past Bloody Marsh historical site and take your first left onto East Beach causeway. Follow road into parking lot and walk over the beach ramp to the left to the kite area.
The St.Simons Surf Sailors has a club at the beach in this area with Windsurfers, catamaran sailors, land sailors and kiteboarders. We have all agreed to launch only in a safe manner and only in a safe location away from people and other sailors! The rules are: no shoulder hopping and no beach dummies. We ad here to the PASA training and safety rules.
