This spot is good for beginners or advanced people who would like to practice freestyle tricks. No real waves. Tides are irregular but shallow, only difference is whether you can use the shallow water area in the kite zone of Hotel Shams. The shallow area gets very crowded with beginners. Some big stones in the water, watch your legs.
The beach is about 300m wide and about 30m deep. On the beach, the wind is slightly gusty, but you can stand in the water (maximum up to your knees) and your assistant at the edge of the water when you launch. Makes safe launching very easy. Unfortunately, if you are not living in the Hotel Shams, you have to pay to get onto the beach.
In the summer, the water reaches 30°C, air up to 40°C, but it's dry. In the winter, a short arm wetsuit should be sufficient, water around 20°C, air 20-25°C. Kitesurfing is possible all year round.

Kite sizes usually 10-16. Wind is almost always N or NW to N more constant, NW slightly offshore and more gusty (rescue boat available). The wind is most reliable in the summer (very reliable), autumn is also great, winter is ok. Gusty winds near shore when it it (slightly) offshore. The hot, dry wind means that you need a slightly bigger kite for the same wind force (the air is less dense).
Safety: please stay away from the swimmer zone, launch safely and stay away from beginners - there are always people learning. Nice boat trips are organized every day.
06-07-19 Andreas: Great for beginners, wind was 70% good in May. Some big stones in the water, watch your legs. Fee if you're not staying at Shams is 40 Eqyptian Pounds (5 Euros) (May 2006).
05-11-21 swell: Just came back from that place. Nice hotel (Shams Safaga), food is ok.
The shallow area is to shallow and to small, because allways full of the beginners, and the wind is to gusty near the beach, so if you look for somewhat to practicing freestyle tricks, go better somewhere else. For hooked in riders it's ok. Wind slighty offshore, but there is a rescue boat.
