Water Quality is moderately clean. Used to be very dirty but Revere Beach is in close proximity to the Deer Island Water Treatment Plant. The water tends to get better every year. The only downfall to the water quality is after a rainstorm as a lot of the Revere Beach Boulevard storm drains empty out into beach area. The surface of the water varies. There can be chop and sometimes waves. Waves are predominant in easterly winds or after off shore storms. Low tide water can become shallow and flat in spots due to sandbars. Expect a long walk to deep enough water from the kite set-up area however, there is a tide pool thats about 1-2ft deep at mid-low tide, makes for flat waters. At high tide the water can get choppy and has small waves. The further out you go away from the beach the surface condition of the water can gen large swells on an outgoing tide due to a neighboring inlet and saltwater marsh area. Waves only during and after a storm and they break close to shore. You can ride them only at high tide.

The beach looks nice. It is C-shaped and about 3km long. It is runs on a boulevard with plenty of free parking. The sand is soft above the tide line and below is hard packed sand, there are shells and small pebbles in certain areas. Please note that the sand varies. At the south end of the beach is a lot of small rocks, pebbles and sea shells and is not a recommended area to kite due to high pedestrian traffic of beach goers, sunbathers etc. It can also be littered with trash at this end of the beach. Also there is an odd thermal that usually makes winds sporadic. A bit north of mid way of the beach is the widest dry sand area. It is okay to kite here only after 6pm July to September 6th. (when lifeguards on duty). The north side of the beach after the last high rise condo (across the white `Fiesta House` building is where kiters usually go. The southwest winds are best at this point. Usually no beach goers or sunbathers but you may run into a few fishermen. The locals are cool to newbies, strangers and spectators. We have a strict `Don't ask don't tell` policy with the life guards and State Police. Follow the signs and observe the speed limits on the boulevard as there a lot of State Police w/nothing to do. Plenty of room for many kiters. However, there is a section of the beach where we can ride all the time is that is the north section of the beach close to `the point of pines`. Usually kiters flock to the `Fiesta Building` this is the spot to go to.

Kiting season at this spot is good April to September. Better June, July and some of August, September rocks. Water temperature varies. December 42°F. January to March very cold, frozen mid March, low 40's°F. April: 40-50°F (steamer suit works fine 5/6 mm). May:50-55°F. June: 55-65°F depends on the weather and gulf stream. Easterly winds predominant this time of year and that brings in the warmer waters from the Gulf Stream up the coast.
