It's a fresh water reservoir. Flat to choppy water, depending on the wind strength. In the middle you can find wave of 1.6 m height, very nice to jump and to pass it over.
Beach with hard sand. The beach is not safe. Is getting better all the time, but you need to look out for rocks. Wind on the shore is gusty so water start is with body in the water and have to bring the kite rapidly to the other side. That makes it a place not good for beginners.
A wetsuit is recommended all year. Warm water from September to April, you can use wetsuit 2 or 3 mm, thicker one is not necessary at that time. Every time it's sunny, sun block is advised, Chile´s sun burns a lot, be aware of it, you will never feel cold.

There is wind almost every day. September to April with about 20-35 knts, and from April to September 15-25 knts. From 1 pm to 6 pm it is not gusty. It is a little gusty in the morning and later after 7 pm, it's suggested not to go out in the morning, you could come across with 35 knots, so in the morning 15 knots is normal but afternoon goes up to 30 or 37 knots.
La Serena airport is 30 min away from the lake. 450 km North of Santiago de Chile. Go to La Serena City. There go to the East 42 km away you can find big a big dam named Puclaro. Go to the north side, the kite/windsurf spot. The next village is Gualliguaica. Puclaro is the name of the dam of the reservoir.
