A bit narrow on the sand side. Have to wade out into the water about 4 metres (30m lines). Great launching area (no trees etc.), soft white sand and not too many beachgoers (other than kiters).
Warm weather and water during November to March. Rash shirt needed to keep sun off. The weather ranges from hot in summer (42°C) to mildly cold (4°C) in winter, which implies that we enjoy terrific weather almost all year round!
S/SW sideonshore (summer), N/NW sideonshore (winter), gusty. SE offshore periodically. Summer southerly seabreezes are the best for this location (between about November and March). Summer seabreezes are approx 15-25 knots most days.
The train does not yet come to Rockingham but you can catch a bus to the Rockingham bus station and then catch another one to Penguin Island. By car you follow the freeway south to the end which becomes Safety Bay Road and you follow this around until you hit the water (you will see the Islands and the Cafe on the waterfront). On the corner of the point there is a cafe and a carpark.
