Depending on tides it can be very flat and shallow or choppy and a bit deeper water. To access walk from the kitebeach `Yachthafen` to the shipping channel and cross it. Be careful, a very strong current can cause a lot of trouble. Only crossable 1.5-2 hours before low tide. Get back latest 2 hours after low tide. Very nice flat water behind the shipping channel. On East winds a nice channel behind the shipping channel offer a bit deeper water. On South winds that channel does not work, then ride a bit further to the East and get to the sandbar with very flat water. In other wind directions ride to the West, where you will find choppy water. Sandy, but slicky bottom.
Summer is nice and warm. High season a shorty is ok, a few weeks with just shorts is possible. Usually a wetsuit is always needed. Water max 22°C in summer, normally around 15°C. Winter gets cold, but a thick wetsuit, gloves, mask and shoes make kiting almost year-round possible. Air: summer between 20-30°C, spring and fall around 15°C.
Westerly winds with depressions. Best from fall to spring. Summer lighter. Nice NE and E winds in summer, but not very often. Best directions: E and S. Northerlies are gusty.
Get to Norderney. Just next to the harbor. Access by walking from kitebeach `Yachthafen` or by boat to the sandbar. Special rules for using your car during the season. Check the internet before you go.
Only works 2 hours before and after low tide. Never go alone! Ask locals for more info, always check the tide schedule. For experienced riders, but with a boat also good for beginners.
