The weather is wonderful all year round. The air temp in September to April is 25-35°C and the water temp 20-23°C. In April to August the day air temp is 20-25°C and the water temp is 18-20°C. It is possible to kitesurf, surf all year round. Most people wear board shorts except for May to July they may wear a spring suit.
During the windy season you can expect wind 5-6 days a week. During the winter months expect 2-3 days of wind. The average wind is between 15-25 knots. The best wind season is August to April.
Mid March to April is cyclone season so expect 25 knots+ during these months.
Mermaid Beach is located in the centre of the city of the Gold Coast. The heart of the Gold Coast is Surfers Paradise. Mermaid Beach is 5 minutes drive south of Surfers Paradise. The main airport for the Gold Coast is located in Coolangatta which is around 25 minutes south of Mermaid Beach. Bus transport travels to Mermaid Beach from both Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise. If you are coming from Brisbane you can go by train/bus.
Please stay at lease 100 m from any flagged swimming area on the Gold Coast. These areas are for swimmers only and are marked by red/yellow flags either side. Other than that respect all beach and water users.
