Shallow and flat water. In stronger winds it gets choppy. In its middle human size deep, but it has one small channel where you can't stand. Sometimes really shallow. The water is not clear and has not the best quality.
Typically North German weather: air between 20-30°C in summer (June-August) and a good mixture of rain and sun, otherwise 10-20°C. The water can reach up to 20-21°C and spring and autumn about 10-15°C. The water is always a bit warmer here than in the ocean. A wetsuit is always good to have with you. The season starts around April and ends in October/November. Off-season possible unless it is frozen.

Winds from all directions and forces can be expected. Best winds in spring and autumn. Summer has lighter winds. Since it is a lake it can be used for any wind directions. Best wind comes from SW, W, NW. Winds from eastern and South are very gusty.
From A23 (Hamburg-Husum/Heide) exit at "Meldorf" and follow the signs to Meldorf. Drive through Meldorf until you come to a traffic light with a T-junction. Turn left here and turn right at the next chance. Follow the road until it makes a big curve and you see some silos, here is a sign for "Speicherkoog" where you turn left. Follow this road all the way until you see a lake to your right and turn right into the parking lot.
