A great big sandy beach that has no reef in the kitezone, downwind has many limestome reefs that are VERY sharp and would make short work of a kite. Some seaweed on but otherwise great, the beach is restricted to the area south of the bridge and north of the surf club during summer yet you can go anywere south of the bridge in winter.
Warm and windy most days in summer, it's Perth-hot and windy
rash vest is essincial in summer other wise you will come back looking like a cooked cray fish (you can get one of those up the beach). In winter most wear a full length wetsuit but the water is still above 16°C. The on season is summer and some still kite during winter but they are storm riders-expearienced kiters only.
The beach faces WNW so the best wind is the seabreeze (SW). Strong SW are expected in summer and winter is a whole range but you can be lucky and get a northerly.
From Perth: get on Stirling hwy. head south. Turn right at Mosman Park train station so that you cross the level crossing. Head southwest, once you pass the pedestrian bridge you are at the kite beach. From Freo: head up the coast, once over the river head for the sea, go north and you will be driving parralel to the beach, park near the pedestrian bridge. The car park is commonly hit by thieves.
Act sensible, AKSA membership is needed if you do a downwinder to Duch Inn. Stay just upwind of the bridge in summer and anywere south of the bridge in winter.
