In the summer when the thermal winds hit, it is flat water with a bit of chop. On North wind (6 Bft) waves variating from 0.5 m to 3m! Great place for wave riding. Winter with big waves. Due to big and dangerous rocks on most places in front of the beach too dangerous for kite beginners. There is current along the beach going North. Keep in mind when you come in trouble. Do not go out to far. Waves are due to bottom structure not really ridable. The stronger the wind, the higher the waves. Interval is short.
The beach is facing Northwest. It has nice, smooth pebbles, but you can find big but smooth rocks as soon as you get in the water. Lots of space to launch your kite. This is a 5km sandy beach with no trees anywhere. Even in the back there is a lake. The beach is dirty, a lot of waste from sea. And also glass. Be careful.
Thermal winds during summer. When it is sunny, 99% change on wind. Good winds: West, Northwest, North. The summer here is the best time to go kitesurfing. Can ride from May until October almost every day. Thermals every day! Only 10-15 days in August the wind drops a bit and you need your big size kites. Best time to get here is in June and July. Best wind less people on the beach! General wind directions: onshore and sideshore. Winter not that often wind and a bit gusty too.
West islands of Greece. Get to the island Lefkada, as soon as you get to the island (from the bridge) turn right and you will see the beach. In the summer you can get a flight here directly with charter planes from almost anywhere. Winter is hard to get here. The ferry from Italy comes really close though. Only reachable by car. Best kite launching area in front of the 3 most Northerly windmills. You can park your car almost on the beach.
In front of Milos Beach club there is a line of yellow buoys. Left: windsurfing, right: kiteboarding. In the lagoon (lake) behind the spot a lot of fishermen nets and baskets are there, kiteboarding prohibited, like the rest of the beaches on the peninsula (including Vassiliki). Best place to ride on the 5km beach is the windsurfing area: flatter water, better waves and more wind thanks to the venturi effect caused by the mountain nearby.
