La Prairie is the upwind part of the lagoon. This is the area you can see when looking upwind from le Morne, and it consists of a very large and pretty shallow lagoon. This lagoon has itÂ’s traps nearer the reef where there are large fields of urchins, and some big patches of stag horn corals in places. When sailing this lagoon one should approach darker patches with care to make sure they are passable.
South westerly most arvo's, quite constant winds May through Aug, after and before that you have 50/50 chance of getting it on. Usual wind is SE trade wind and because of mountains acceleration is a daily occurence. Ideal directions are 90 to 180 degrees.
Directly on the opposite side of the island from the airport. You can get a bus from the airport or taxi but make sure you barter for taxi. La Prairie is about 4km east of Le Morne. You can park directly on the grass.
Respect the locals, who mainly ride on the weekend. Some very nice downwind rides can be had from there all the way down to the point of Le Morne 4km away.
