Flat to choppy conditions depending on wind speeds, with some waves in the boat channel towards the east end of the beach. At low tide the water can be shallow enough to stand up even out ways from shore.
Prevailing winds are SW and Kalmus has been measured as being the windiest spot North of Hatteras on the East coast. In the summer winds commonly reach 15-20 knots.
Follow Route 3 south to Cape Cod. Get on Route 6 (Midcape hwy) and take exit 6. Follow to airport rotary and take a right at rotary. Follow to end. Kalmus is on the left.
Kiteboarding is banned at Kalmus Beach and all beaches in the town of Barnstable. Ban is 24 hrs per day, 365 days per year. Windsurfing zone: straight line from the western end of Kalmus to the channel markers for Hyannis Harbor. In season parking fees are 10 USD.
