There is a dyke with grass on it. At the waterside there are stones. Never launch your kite at this place. It´s too dangerous. There is a peninsula close to the parking lot. This small place is where the kiters launch their kites. In Lemkenhafen there is a parking lot for free. You can put on your wet suit and grab your stuff. Now you have to walk along the road for approx. 200m. Then you go through a small gate (for the sheep). Right in front of you on the left side there is the small island where you launch your kites. Never park your car in front of the gate, because it is used from time to time. There are hardly any windsurfers so the spot is great for kitesurfers. Watch out for sheeps on the dyke and their fence.
A wetsuit is necessary nearly all over the year. The water is between 5-20°C (spring to summer), air temperature is in the average 18°C (in summer) and can go up to 30°C. If you have the adequate wetsuit you can surf from April to November. Off-season is possible but very cold.
Best direction is west (23% wind from West). At this wind direction the wind is a bit slowed and gusty down from the city of Orth. If you go out further on the water the wind is stronger because it comes directly from the sea. It can be nice because you can start bigger kites: if you feel over-powered you stay close to the coast. SW and SE best directions.
You pass the bridge (Fehmarnsundbrücke) on the B207. You leave the B207 and go on in the same direction on the L217 for 400m. You turn left into `Koenigsstrasse` (3400m). Now you see the sign `Lemkenhafen`. You are now in the small town of Lemkenhafen. You cross the town, at the end of the town you see a big parking lot. Here you can park for free and walk about 200m to the spot on the left.
07-04-26 Toby: kitesurfing and windsurfing have been banned here due to a natural reserve. Windsurfer and Kitesurfer can go now to Gollendorf for similar conditions.
