The water conditions are always nearly the same. Choppy and flat water, there is a huge shallow area where you can easily stand in the water (for beginners recommended). Some big stones in the water.
A wetsuit is necessary nearly all over the year. The water is between 5-20°C (spring to summer), air temperature is in the average 18°C (in summer) and can go up to 30°C. If you have the adequate wetsuit you can surf from April to November. Off-season is possible but very cold.
Take the A1 from Hamburg and drive North to Puttgarden. Follow the road to Puttgarden when the A1 ends. Take the first exit (Petersdorf) after the bridge to Fehmarn, turn left and then take the second left and follow that road all the way to `Albertsdorf`. In `Albertsdorf` the street makes a 90° right turn, there is a street to the left with signs to `Gold`. Follow that street and after about 500m the street splits, keep right, and after 100m to the left you find the parking lot (free). Walk to the dam and walk up North about 100m to the kitezone.
Right in front of the street is the windsurfing zone. When it is empty no problem to kite there, but when it is pact with windsurfers, walk about 100m north (right) to the kitebeach.
