When it is windy, there is a small wave (about 1-2 meters). At the lighthouse it is perfect shallow. In SSW winds it is perfectly flat for speed. Nice clean waves with NNE winds.
A wetsuit is necessary nearly all over the year. The water is between 5-20°C (spring to summer), air temperature is in the average 18°C (in summer) and can go up to 30°C. If you have the adequate wetsuit you can surf from April to November. Off-season is possible but very cold.
Go to the spot when to wind comes from about East, perfect is SSE. From East the wind is constant. The more southern the wind comes, the gustier the wind. SSW great for speed, but offshore.
Drive the A7 North and then A215 to Kiel. Follow the directions to the Olympiazentrum Schilksee, pass the big bridge and go right before Schilksee. Then just drive to the Falkensteiner Strand, lots of parking spaces.
In spring and autumn you can use the whole beach (very long) because of not having a restricted area for tourists. In summer you need to start your kite at the surf school, most of the time there are no problems to kitesurf, just take care like you do it on every other spot.
