At low tide the beach is really nice and super easy to launch from any wind direction, however once the tide comes up it begins to get tricky as there are groynes higher up the beach so locals tend to wait for the tide to go down as the beach at low tide is just sand.
In winter you definitively need a thick wetsuit. In summer you can wear just shorts, but a shorty is good to have. The season is as long as you can bear the cold.
The best conditions would be when the wind is coming from Northwest. You do need to be careful when its stormy weather as when the rain comes, since unlike most spots where the wind will die it tends to generate a lot more wind. In winter time you generally get 4-5 Bft and you can quite easily get 30mph and more. During the summer its much calmer with 4-5 Bft, so generally bring your big gear for the British summer.
