About 1500 m from shore there are excellent waves on the reef. Be cautious, as it is a long swim in if your kite goes down. At the (upwind) eastern entrance to Cabarete Bay is a dangerous fire reef with wicked current. The Western portion of Cabarete Bay - from Azzuro Hotel - is for kite surfers. The reef and beyond is mixed kiters and windsurfers. Kiters please always give way to windsurfers. The shore break in Cabarete Bay can get big. Beginners should to head further down the beach toward Bozo Beach to enter the water.

Sandy shoreline with no rocks. Cabarete Bay is a multi-use beach and there can be many non-kiting tourists, so please launch and land with respect, always give way to walkers, and stay outside of the shore break when kiting.

Be careful with people on the beach and in the water. There are lots of people on the beach and none seem to helpful when you want to land your kite. Try and have someone you know watching you while you're in the water, especially out at the reef - the wind can change direction fairly quickly and with nobody watching the water you could get stuck.
