Sandy beach. At medium to high tide this beach is quite small and frequented by windsurfers, so kiters be careful. At low tide the spit between the island and Bigbury allows you to launch either side, depending on wind direction, but it does get very busy in the summer and unless you know how to handle a kite, avoid kiting here when it is busy. Low tide - mid tide: avoid two hours either side of high tide because beach is either too small or non-existent.
About 20 miles Southeast of Plymouth. Get on A379 and exit onto B3392 to Bigbury, pass it and continue to Bigbury-On-Sea. Park at the parking across Burgh Island.
Advanced levels only. Good kite control and upwind a must. Beginners OK at low tide. Burgh Island is recognized as being one of the best kitesurfing spots in South Devon, but it's not ideal. First of all it is a very popular windsurfing and surfing spot, so you aren't very welcome if you are going to cause a nuisance.
